Southwest Airlines

In its 42nd year of service, Southwest Airlines differentiates itself from other carriers with exemplary customer service delivered by nearly 46,000 employees to more than 100 million customers each year among 96 destinations in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and five near-international countries.

Based in Dallas, Texas, Southwest Airlines was incorporated and commenced customer service on June 18, 1971, with three Boeing 737 aircraft serving three Texas cities – Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio – and grew to become a major airline in 1989 when it exceeded the billion-dollar revenue mark. Southwest topped the monthly domestic originating passenger rankings for the first time in May 2003. Southwest Airlines is now America’s largest low-fare carrier, serving more customers domestically than any other airline with a combination of low fares with no additional fees, friendly customer service, safe and reliable operations, and a corporate culture that extends into the communities they serve.

Today, the mission of Southwest Airlines is to connect people to what’s important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel. As such, they are dedicated to delivering the highest quality of customer service with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual
pride, and company spirit. On May 2, 2011, Southwest acquired Orlando-based AirTran Airways and expects to complete the integration of the two airlines by the end of 2014. Currently, they estimate that more than 134 million people fly Southwest every year.
